WORKFORCE WELLNESS ASSOCIATION

WORKFORCE WELLNESS ASSOCIATION
How wellness of employees influences the company
If the employees in your company are fit and healthy, your company will be able to carry on its work very well.  Only a handful of employees work sincerely in a company and as per the statistics, it is merely 2 out of 10. Half of the employees in the office give the minimum effort just to keep their job.  Kaiser Permanente did a research project running for 20 years!  The researchers have found that approximately 60% to 90% patients visit the doctors for preventable disorders.  Now, Kaiser Permanente is an organization that helps you find the right doctor and provide advanced electronic support and care team.  It helps provide coordinated care, save time, healthcare support at locations near your home, featured facilities, and TV spot.  The health checkup is done by high profile doctors with good credentials.  The doctors communicate with the clients through emails regularly.
BENEFITS OF WELLNESS PROGRAMS
From a large number of studies, it is seen that the companies conduct wellness programs and their employees get good rewards through high productivity.  This investment in human capitalhelps the company make more profit in return.
Now, we are going to discuss about the benefits specifically and they are as follows:
1.   The expenditure in healthcare gets decreased and the diseases related to stress is also reduced.  Those coming under 65 are insured by the employer of the family member.  Some people get a health insurance and the rest of them are not insured.  As per the statistics of World Health Organization, the United States spend $7,146 on health care per capita and 15.2% of its GDP.  Due to the lack of health insurance, 48,000 Americans die every year!
2.  The memory of the employees is improved.  Memory loss affects the work of the employees.  The employees always need to upgrade themselves by learning new software and techniques in the workplace.  If their memory fails, their productivity level reduces.  A team of stressed employees leads to missing deadlines and the group dynamics gets hampered.
3.  The motivation level is increased and as a result, the productivity of the employees increases by leaps and bounds.Employee motivation is very important in workplace.  It has become the central issue of concern for managers.  Every employee gets motivated in his own way.  The employees must use various tactics to motivate their employees at workplace.  Motivation is something that drives people into action.  It must be remembered that motivation is a combination of thoughts, beliefs, ambitions and goals.  The managers are most interested to study motivation level at workplace and the wellness programs help the employees perform better in the workplace.
4.  The valuable time of the employee is saved.  The time management is a very important aspect in the wellness program.  If you can help your employees manage time, then it will be a great help for the employees.  The wellness program will work specifically and help in reducing work stress and increase production.  Therefore the company will gain a lot of profit in the future.  The employees receiving the training will feel loyal and work harder to achieve their targets.  It must be remembered if our workforce is healthy, then their productivity will increase as they will work showing loyalty to the company and respect their managers.
5.  The employees become less absent as they are physically very active and refreshed after the training and show eagerness to work for the company that cares for their health.  A survey taken by Northwestern Life Insurance Company tells us 46% workers experienced job stress.  Due to stress in the life of the employees, a lot of stress related disorders forces them to become absent.  So wellness program on regular basis will help improve their health conditions.  A survey by Prudential Insurance shows that the days of disability have reduced by 20% and the costs of disability-per-capita costs have reduced by 32% when a wellness program gets implemented in the company and the employees participate in it.
COST TO U.S. CORPORATIONS
  1.  The American government spends approximately $1 trillion every year in health care!  The business houses pay 54% of this high expenditure.  As per National Health Expenditure data, the expenses grew $2.7 trillion dollar in 2011.  This is only 17.9% of GDP.  The Private Health Insurance expenditure grew by 3.8% in 2011.  Physician and clinical health expenditure grew by 4.3% in 2011.  11.1% is spend in Personal Health Care in California in 2009 and it is the highest percentage in USA.
  2. The habit of remaining absent in work (known as absenteeism) reduced capacity to work, output of the employees, etc.  are some of the negative factors.  The loss in these areas exceeds the net profit of the Fortune 500 companies.  The Fortune 500 companies are Exxon Mobil (profit $41,010 million), Wal-Mart Stores (profit $15,699 million), Chevron (profit $26,895 million), ConocoPhilips (profit $12,436 million), General Motors (profit $9,190 million dollars), etc.
  3. Over 550 million workdays are lost and this is a huge loss for the United States industries.  This happens every year due to the absence of the employees.  The wellness programs help increase the movement of the sedentary population, a number of employees take the initiative to work, reduce absenteeism, increase the level of productivity among employees, boost loyalty for the company, help the company to retain their employees for a long time, help in holding the premium of insurance per year to a fixed limit.
  4. Huge expenditure in workers’ compensationhas to be incurred every year. The employers in California spend about one billion dollars for medical and legal expenses.
