HERBS, NUTRIENTS AND LIFESTYLE TREATMENT PROTOCOL FOR ADRENAL FATIGUE


Adrenal fatigue is the sum total of symptoms observed in adrenal gland that is functioning below its normal capacity. It is observed in stressful situations.  It is seen in infections of respiratory system like influenza, bronchitis and pneumonia.  The stimulants like coffee, colas are used by those suffering from adrenal fatigue. 
The adrenal fatigue occurs when our adrenal gland cannot cope with the stress.  Our adrenal glands regulate our immunity, rate of heart beat, tone of our muscles, stress and hemostasis.  If the response is low, then adrenal fatigue results in.  At the time of adrenal fatigue, our glands function slowly.

Licorice is said to provide benefit to the adrenal cortex.  The triterpenoid saponins present in this herb causes the cortisol-cortisone balance.  Glycyrrhizin is an important component of Licorice.  This helps cortisol react with aldosterone receptors.  This influences the balance of sodium and potassium and raises blood pressure. 
Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) is a herb used effectively for increasing the peripheral circulation.  It can have a great influence on the stress levels.  The cortisol level is lowered.  Ginkgo extract is taken in doses of 120 to 240 mg per day.
Ashwagandha,  scientifically known as Withania somnifera, is used as an Ayurvedic medicine.  It is used for solving the sleeping disorder. Aswagandha contains withanolide which is an alkaloid.  It can be taken  2 g twice a day. 
Korean Ginseng is known scientifically as Panax ginseng.  The root of this plant is used as medicine for reducing fatigue.     This increases the strength of immune system in our body.  This herb helps to  elongate the length of our life.  We become sensitive to insulin with improved memory, develop immunity from cold.  It cures the depression, headache, fatigue of women during menopause.  
Eleuthero is known scientifically as Eleutherococcus senticosus. It helps in increasing our alertness, immunity and stress levels of our body.  The proteins responsible for protection of heat are increased.  It is recommended for patients having  frequent infections and stress. 
   A very important nutrient that helps in treatment of adrenal fatigue is vitamin C.  Ascorbic acid is required for cortisol production.  The actual dosage is 3000 to 4000 mg every day.  Pantothenic acid is also used for producing adrenal hormones.  The licorice roots are used here. 
The modifications in lifestyle pattern that can be done to overcome adrenal fatigue are -- healthy eating, normal sleep patterns, and avoidance of situations that seems to be stressful.  An individual can follow these steps for a lifestyle modification as follows:
  1. Sometimes you need to take fatty foods to generate good hormones.  Take some butter, olive oil, coconut oil. Sodium is important for the adrenal gland.  Sea salt is essential as it contains minerals.
  2. A meal including high protein can be taken.  Amino acids are present in protein.  It helps in creating healthy cells.  The sugar, alcohol and caffeine must be taken in limited amounts. 
  3. In the breakfast, you can take carbohydrate or fruit, the adrenal will be increased. You can take eggs fried in butter.
  4. You should never take any food whose ingredients you do not know.  You can take vitamin C and B complex.  These vitamins reduce the stress levels of our body.  You can take magnesium before going to bed at night.  This will help to  repair of your body.
